I turned the TV on, and saw a commercial for the Vidalia Chop Wizard. It was one of those extended commercials…not quite an infomercial but much longer than a regular commercial.

I was immediately sucked in. I can chop an onion without crying! I can chop a hard boiled egg for egg salad! I can easily chop apples, strawberries, and melon for a fruit salad! I can chop a tomato without making a soggy mess!

WOW!!!!!!!!!! You know, I’ve never been good with knives. I hate chopping tomatoes because it gets squishy and sloppy. And onions, of course, make my eyes sting. This thing looks PERFECT! And for only $19.99! AND if I order now I can get the fine dicer blade for all of my FINE DICING NEEDS!

I might just need to order this thing. In fact, I suddenly feel the need to fill my kitchen with gadgets!

I can get a vintage VEG-O-MATIC on eBay for $1.99!

Hey, and my good buddy Harriet Carter has the Pasta Express. WOW! What an easy way to make pasta.

I could make pasta with that, and chop some peppers with the Chop Wizard and have a nice dinner.

Uh oh. I’m torn. If I want to get fancy, I can get the Nicer Dicer for $37.95…

It juliennes, it dices, it chops — and it comes with a cookbook!

And to make my kitchen gadget collection complete, how about a hot dog rotisserie griller? It’s only fifty bucks and would be certain to make my frankfurter cooking endeavors as easy as pie.

Maybe I’m just getting a little silly here…but you know, I really AM interested in the Vidalia Chop Wizard. Imagine the chopped tomatoes and the tearless onion cutting! The possibilites are endless.

You need to make a trip to China Fair on Highland Ave. (www.chinafairinc.com). They have everything for the cook, professional and otherwise. As well as a few gadgets.

Some of their stuff is cheap junk, but much of it is pro-grade. Great prices on amazing knives as well.

  2. Kristine Munroe on July 14, 2006 9:27 am

Oh, good to know. We are actually in need of good knives. And if they have some sort of gadget that slices and dices, they’re certain to have my patronage!

  3. Bev on July 14, 2006 5:12 pm

It not only chops and dices, it comes with COVENIENT BUILT IN STORAGE! How could you go wrong!?!?!?!?

You have to check out the Food Network TV show Good Eats. It’s a cross between geek science and cooking, with really good recipes and a lot of the “whys” of cooking. Its host Alton Brown is a die-hard believer that there should be only one “unitasker” in the kitchen (a fire extinguisher), so in just about every show you learn how to do something that requires a gadget without the gadget.

  5. Eric on July 15, 2006 2:31 am

Alton Brown taught me how to make a gyros loaf and cook it today. And how to make the sauce out of non-Greek yogurt. But, I believe there was a Chop Wizard commercial during his show. It might have been on Top-5, but I think it was during his show.

But I always think: How much is shipping & handling? And do you notice at the end, you have to pay extra to get the fine chopper blade because it specifically says so? Yep…it’s an extra shipping and handling charge.

I was intrigued enough to almost call and find out what it REALLY costs, but I didn’t. Too many gadgets already, I guess.

I have a chopper just like the chop wizard. I honestly wish I had seen the infomercial for the chop wizard first because I only have a fine chopping blade and would like to have the larger dicer balde that the chop wizard comees with. The one I have is made of the same high impact plastic so is not so well made but so far it works for me. I really do like the tool and it saves alot of time and dirty hands, coounter tops, chopping boards, etc. I use the chopper that I have to chop everything for salsa, for casseroles and stove top dishes, egg, tuna and chicken salad, salmon patties, meat loaf and more. It is one of the simplist to use and washes up easily.

I do not have the chop wizard but many of you may find it a very useful gadget. Go ahead and pay the extra 5.95 for the other blade. We all know the extra blade does not cost 5.95 to ship. It’s their way of charging for the extra blade, but I really think it would be worth it.

As I said, I have a similar chopper with only one blade, the fine chopping blade. I would love to have the other dicing blade but I do not want to pay 19.95 for the chop wizard to get the dicing blade.

There are many gadgets out there that are more trouble to use and to clean than they are worth, but I honestly do not think this is one of them.

Vidalia onion wizad looks like something I would like, however Wal Mart has what looks exaactly like the Onion Wizard $14.00. It does not have an optional additional blade. I have no interest in waiting 6 to 8 weeks for delivery What do you think? Check it out on http://www.progressiveintl.com

That Onion Chopper looks good! And I can get it at Sears.

  9. medglenn on August 1, 2006 9:38 am

I just saw an ad for the same on The Weather Channel.

    Looks tempting.

    I note there is a website http://www.chopwizard.com/

    Looks even more tempting.

I think that the last time I was actually tempted too purchase something from an infomercial was BlueBlocker sunglasses, 1993.

then again I am always saying that we (as a family) have too much stuff and should downsize.

It was fun to read others responces though. I might have to throw something away and make rooom for a chop wizard. Maybe that old salad shooter that is never used.

Go to ebay. They’re selling the Vidalia Chop Wizard for at total of $29.95. That includes the extra dicer and shipping. It saves a few bucks.

[...] Looks like I don’t need to buy that Vidalia Chop Wizard after all…since I received a Progressive Onion Chopper as an early birthday present from the fam! [...]

Hi, saw the chopwizard today and tried to order over the phone. What a pain, add this, add that, for 5.95 get this, for an extra 20 get that, blah, blah….I don’t know if I even order anything, I was in a loop. I should have gone via web to order. I’m going to see what exactly was charged on my card and I may have pushed a wrong button. I dont’ want to wait 6-8 weeks either, I’ll probably cancel my “order.”

  13. Cara on September 4, 2006 12:58 pm

has anyone actually used it? Does it work…very curious!

  14. Kristine Munroe on September 5, 2006 9:10 am

I got the Progressive Onion Chopper and it’s great!

This progressive web site shows all the TV gadgets. THe Vidalia Onion Chop Wizard is shown here and lists a number of stores where you can but it. It’s identical! Bealls, Bed-Bath and Beyond, Linens &Things and Sears are among the stores listed to buy this chopper. Also if you go to the chopwizard site the extra blade comes in a package deal, if you so choose for $6 more, $25.90+6.95 SH for the whole thing. I’m wondering who’s used it and if it’s worth it? I do alot of chopping and dicing with the “Eating for Life” plan and it can take me an hour each evening preparing my food for the next day! Would like to hear who’s used it.

To let you know…my Dad ordered the Vidalia Chopper for himself. He loves it especially since my Mom can not cook now. Saves him time and frustration. He was really thrilled with it. I would buy one or a well made one similar to it. Hope this helps someone with questions.

Wait it out a bit…they usually carry these AS SEEN ON TV products at Linens N Things.

I am looking to order the chop wizard, looks great on TV. Has anyone actually tried it out? Would love to know. There is an order form in my sunday paper coupons - $19.95 eash or only $14.95 if you order 2 or more. You get the dicer blade with it as well. Shipping is a flat rate of $5.95 no matter how many you order. Sounds like the best deal so far. They don’t offer this price on the web site.

I ordered the Chop Wizard over 6 weeks ago. Told a friend about it and she ordered hers 4 days after I did. (She only lives 1 1/2 miles from me). Well…..My friend got her Chop Wizard 2 WEEKS ago, still waiting on those idiots to get their act together. Tired of their run around. They couldn’t come up with a Tracking number, said shipment goes through USPS but USPS has no record of my shipment. I think they’re a bunch of thieves if you want my honest opinion. I called USPS and USPS said they have no record and to call Chop Wizard, well Chop Wizard tells me to call USPS. I’m like…..Why are you telling me to call USPS when they have no record of you even handing over package to them? Just a bunch of stupid people trying to make a bunch of money quickly and will tell you what you want to hear, AVOID

I purchased the Chop Wizard with the two blades. I couldn’t be happier with it!! It chops onions, peppers, chilies, apple, carrot, celery … Either small or large dice. I’m buying them for friends and family for Christmas! Well made, so much better than the cheaper version.

I ordered one Chop Wizard from the TV ad, waited about 6 weeks and received two at a cost of $65.70. The postage and handling was $25.80 for the two. Considerably more than I expected for such a small item. The product works well; however, I’m not pleased with the order processing and handing. Why they sent two is a puzzle to me….I could have shipped a really large, heavy item for $25.80!!!!

  25. Gloria on October 13, 2006 2:31 pm

A TV station in Arizona tried about 5 different As Seen on TV items, and the Vidalia Chop Wizard was the only one they could recommend. Just this morning, I got an e-mail about the As Seen on TV Wind Storm vacuum. I decided not to get it. Very low ratings and many negative comments on line about it. Then, while on the website, I checked the Chop Wizard. It has positive comments and could really save time for those who chop a lot. Going to search around for the cheapest price, then get one for me and several more for my “chopping” friends.

I just got the Vidalia Chop Wizard a couple weeks ago and we LOVE it! It is amazing-chops potatoes great, onions, whatever. However, I checked my credit card statement and was charged $32!! So now I have to call the 800# and try and get that worked out. Pain in the neck!

  28. ron on October 21, 2006 6:14 pm

    Tammy:

My sister ordered one and they charged her $56.00 (for just one) from her credit card. No explanation, no phone number or return address.

Do you have their 800 number?

  29. carol on October 23, 2006 5:38 pm
