Come together, right now…over the Beatles!
There’s an amazing Beatles cover band that plays locally called Beatlejuice. We’ve seen them dozens of times, usually at Johnny D’s.
Beatles music seems to have an amazing affect on people. They attract people young and old, and Johnny D’s is always packed whenever they play. Everybody there knows all the words, and the dance floor is always crowded. From doing the twist to their earlier tunes to spacy interpretive dances you see people doing to Sgt. Pepper era music, it’s always fun for everyone. The 21 year olds are just as into the music as the 60 year olds. The music certainly transcends generations.
Usually by the end of the first set, you feel like you’re friends with everyone on the dance floor. The last time I saw Beatlejuice, there wound up being a kickline of people during “All You Need Is Love” waving peace signs around.
I don’t think there is a lot of music that can attract so many people and generations like Beatles music does. Most of their fans probably didn’t get to see them perform live, since they stopped touring in 1966…so to have a genuinely GOOD cover band that can perform the song inpecably as well as bring Beatles fans together is a really great thing.

I’ve never seen Beatlejuice, although I hear good things. It’s amazing when you hear a band play Beatles covers and hear hit after hit after hit.
One of my favorite band that plays Beatles covers is the Beatles Butchers with Steve Mayone on guitar. Unlike tribute bands, they don’t dress up or anything. And while they play songs fairly true to the originals, they generally play all the songs with the grit of the Beatles from the later years. They’re playing the early show at TOAD on June 29th (next thurs. at 7:30pm). Check them out!
Hey, it was only 40 years ago this month that John pointed out that they were more popular than Jesus Christ. :)

Do some tribute bands actually dress up as the band they’re doing a tribute too? That’s pretty cheesy!
[...] Ooh, we also got a Boston album…Matt’s always been a big fan of them and I never listened to them much before, but since we got into Beatlejuice it’s really cool to hear Brad Delp singing. [...]

Thank you for your comment. I liked Brad very much and he will always hold a place in my heart. I’ll never forget his talent, but more importantly, I’ll never forget his kindness.
