I’m from Joisey! Are you from Joisey?
Yes, I’m from Jersey! The land of full-service pumps. It’s illegal to pump your own gas in Jersey (and Oregon as well), and that’s absolutely OK with me. I don’t like pumping gas. The intricate workings of a gas pump are obviously far too complex for someone of my mental calibur.
What can I say? I’m from Jersey!! I pull up to the pump, roll down the window, and declare: “Fill it up with ‘regular’, please!”
When I lived in Watertown, I used to stop at a full-service Citgo for my gas on the way to work, but when I moved to Newton I couldn’t find a full-service gas station on my way to work.
Yesterday I had to meet Matt in Watertown after work, so I stopped at that full-service Citgo station. Let me tell you, it was great. I got to sit there leisurely as someone else pumped my gas…and it’s a good safety precaution too. Should I happen to faint when I find out it cost over thirty bucks to fill my tank, I’m already sitting down which will decrease my chance of concussion.

My wife cracked me up when she moved to MA from NJ…she had never touched a gas nozzle. I had to give her a lesson. That and using a clutch. She got both PDQ.
Strangely enough, the 3 gas stations in H20town closest to my home are all full-serve (and are on par price-wise with the self-serve ones.) If I’m driving through belmont to Route 2, the 2 stations across from each other at the corner of pleasant & brighton rd are both Full-serve (one is independently owned, the other is a Getty I believe. )
And those two have consistently been the cheapest in the area, for me. undercuts the others by at least 10cents, sometimes more.
worth a look.
Well… I’m of the opinion that you’re not *really* from NJ unless you’ve played Russian roulette with your life at Accide…uh..Action Park, and have scars to prove it ;)
I’m so with you on the gas, though :D When I left NJ to go to college, I had to learn, too. Not fun, especially in the middle of February when your car is nice and toasty. And I was also shocked when I learned that diners aren’t always open for 24 hrs! I mean, where else are you supposed to sober up after partying at 3 in the morning?? Honestly, our fellow Americans live like savages… ;)
