Eyebrows
I hung out with my Little Sister today, and she suggested that we get our nails done. I’ve gotten manicures a few times, and although I’m not really a “get my nails done” type of person, I figured maybe it would be a fun thing to do. So, we found a spa place in Needham, the town she lives in.
First she got her nails done. Red, with little flowers on them. Afterwards, she went to the nail drying thingy while the manicurist lady did my nails. She kind of kept looking at me with this weird expression on her face, and she told me that I need to get my eyebrows “done”.
I was outraged!!! How dare this woman insult my appearance in that fashion. I don’t think that’s at all acceptable. Something like that would never happen to a man.
I’m tired of these standards painted by society for women. It’s asinine. Why is body hair so frowned down upon? And now delipatories are being pushed on men, too, saying that men should be hairless too. We’re mammals, hair is natural.
I’m really glad my Little Sister didn’t hear this woman encourage me to change my appearance because I think it’s important for girls to understand that they’re beautiful even if they don’t conform to these standards.
When I was in college, I was encouraged by my roommate to wax my arm hair off. After she told me that I needed to do that, I grew self conscious of my arm hair. I’m half Mediterranean, of course I’m hairy. So, I endured a half hour of pain just so my arms were hairless. It took a loooong time to grow back, and when it did it looked spikey for at least a month. I haven’t waxed my arms since.
This bothered me to the point where I’ve been examining my eyebrows in the mirror, zooming in 500% on pictures in Photoshop.

Is it that bad? It’s not like I’m going around with a unibrow like this:

And frankly, so what if I was? That’s my business.
It’s a good thing the woman didn’t see my legs. She’d probably book an emergency appointment for a waxing and ask me why I don’t shave my legs on a daily basis.

Anyway, my nails are a pinkish purpley color now. I guess that’s kinda neat.

Your eye(s?) looks fine! Maybe she just wanted to make a buck?!? Irritating! :P
Yeah, maybe she was trying to upsell. Whatta jerk!!
Man, I’m getting those crazy ass old man eyebrow hairs. I pluck about 100 and they all grow back in about a month. Maybe I should hit the nail place and get my brow waxed before a bird lays some eggs there.
Agreed, our society is obsessed with hair removal. I’ve never had my brows waxed/plucked, and don’t ever plan to.
LOL, as far back as I can remember, my *dad* has always gotten his eyebrows “trimmed” when he goes to the barbershop. His brows are sorta thick, so he asks the barber to basically run the hair clippers over them to trim them down. Sigh. I think he’d look good if he let them grow out, a la Pierre Salinger…

That’s funny. I speculate that in roughly 10 years Matt will have eyebrows like that!
[...] I’m sure you all remember the eyebrow debacle of earlier this year. I hung out with my Little Sister today, and she suggested that we get our nails done.
