Apostrophes

Why is correct apostrophe usage such a rare find these days?
The Tavern in Central Square, is a lovely place to enjoy a meal. I recommend their brunch buffet on Sundays. Most of their fare is tasty and easy on the pocketbook. I enjoy their mini cakes and make-your-own-sundae station.
They also serve breakfast on Saturdays.
However, a sign outside boasts that they now serve breakfast on SATURDAY’S. Saturday’s what??! Does it belong to Saturday? They spent money on the production of this giant sign and it has a pretty major typo on it.
Oh well. I still like the Tavern. Mmmm…make-your-own-sundaes…
Or should I say make-your-own-sundae’s?
Ahahahaha, I crack myself up.

LOL! Sunday’s! Saturday’s! MINE MINE MINE
As you know, apostrophe misuse is one of my pet peeves as well!
Along these lines, there used to be a hand-painted wooden sign on the building across the street from mine. I wish I’d taken a picture of the sign before the new building owner took it down last year. The sign was brown with white lettering and written in block letters was written:
—————————————————
“Please” put trash out “only” on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. “Thank you.”
—————————————————
You’re welcome!
Whoops, that should’ve said…The sign was brown with white lettering and on it was written in block letters…
I used to have an editor at the glob that would yell at us, “YOU DON’T OWN IT!” when we used a comma and an ’s’ wrong. I’m not kidding. He’d yell across the room and call us out, hard. Now, I overdo all of my punctuation. But that’s part of a Boston Glob tradition, I guess.
If you haven’t already, you must read Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss. It made me want to stand up and shout, “TESTIFY!”
LOL! I’m reading “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” now and this post totally reminded me of it!
