Short hair!

January 23rd, 2008

Well, no, not really. It’s actually still quite long. But I did get four inches chopped off! I did some research on Yelp and settled on Ciao Bella in Nonantum. I figured, it’s called “Ciao Bella”, it’s in Nonantum, and my coarse, curly hair is not just a Jewfro, but I have my half-Italianness to thank as well.

So, I dialed their number as my heart palpitated. I almost hung up, but instead, I made a 12:30 appointment. And to my great joy, the hairstylist I had my appointment with had curly hair! REALLY curly hair! I sighed of relief.

I told her I wanted those gross, dead, bleachy ends cut off. She cut off four inches and did some long layers at the bottom.

And I left feelin’ groovy. I’ll go back in March to get more of those dead ends chopped off and soon my hair will be bleach-free!

I haven’t dyed my hair in a few years and now I am getting the yen…UH OH!! I’d do it myself, but the last time I dyed my hair I wound up dying the bathroom as well.

Haircut

January 23rd, 2008

It was autumn 2002. I needed a trim, so I went to a salon that I had never been to. I made it clear that what I wanted was a TRIM, with approximately an inch cut off. The woman cut off four inches of my wet hair, so once my hair dried and curled, my hair looked massacred.

I sobbed and declared, “I AM NEVER GETTING MY HAIRCUT AGAIN!!”

January 2008 — I still haven’t gotten a haircut. However, over the past few days, I have been considering getting a haircut. The bottom of my hair is in bad shape, especially because about 6 (!!) years ago, my sister bleached chunks of my hair, so I still have some of that left towards the bottom. I want a few inches off the bottom (and someone who KNOWS HOW TO CUT CURLY HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!) and perhaps some layers because it makes the curls curl a little nicer.

BUT I AM SCARED!!!! Granted, I now live in Newton so I can probably assume that people here are more likely to know how to cut and tame a Jewfro versus the salon I went to in CA.

I’ve been doing research on Yelp and I am considering making an appointment this week. I hope I don’t chicken out.
