When I First Began Blogging

In June, it will be my SIXTH BLOGGING ANNIVERSARY, if you can believe it.

It started after I read a book, which name escapes me at the moment, about someone who keeps an “online journal” in the earlier days of the internet. The guy who keeps the journal is somewhat of an enigma, and people used newsgroups to discuss the guy’s latest antics.

The idea fascinated me, so I surfed the internet to find an “online journal” website. I don’t think people were calling them blogs yet. So, I found OpenDiary and immediately registered for a journal. I was 18 and angsty. My name was “Plain Belly Sneetch”, because I felt as if everyone else had “stars upon thars” and I did not. :-( So sad.

I remember my first journal entry. I had bad insomnia back in those days, so the first title was: “The Ranting Insomniac”. Wow, that takes me back. I haven’t had insomnia in about two years.

I wrote prolifically. Usually complaining about one thing or another. I got a lot of comments and it was very cathartic to have other sullen teenagers mollycoddle me.

OpenDiary ceased to be a quality website a few years later. I kept blogs on various websites online before finally getting this domain.

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for so long. I give up most hobbies after a week, but this one I’ve had for many years.
