I can’t wait until more of this snow thaws out so I can start walking to work again. I’ve mostly driven since the snow began. Each time I’ve walked since then, it’s been a pretty big ordeal.
A lot of people don’t shovel their sidewalks. At worst, it’s an icy mess, where I feel like I need a pair of ice skates just to get through it! I’m surprise that I didn’t fall. Sometimes I’ve had to walk in the street which also doesn’t feel safe.
I don’t understand how some people just don’t shovel their sidewalks. This is on roads like Comm Ave, which have pedestrians and bus stops, so cleared sidewalks are important. The worst part is that the City of Newton isn’t very vigilant in shoveling (what I assume are) city-owned sidewalks. These are sidewalks that are on medians in Comm Ave, along side municipal parking lots, and around parks. I’d like to see some sort of mandatory shoveling law instated here in Newton. These unshoveled walks discourage foot travel. I hate to drive a mile to work, but I don’t want to risk breaking a bone, either!
I don’t even mind walking when it’s cold out. I’m pretty hearty when it comes to cold weather. But it’s those unshoveled walks, man!! I miss walking to work!Filed under snow, weather | Comment (0)
Yikes. I’m watching the Channel 7 Storm Team and everyone on it is totally manic. Did they all just take some hyper pills before going on air? I like to watch storm coverage but I’m either changing the channel or pressing MUTE!Filed under snow, weather | Comment (0)
In my memory, I can only remember one White Christmas. And it wasn’t pretty. It was wintry mix, and it was nasty, icy, and miserable. I was 12, I think, and I had gotten a bunch of Beach Boys tapes for my birthday a few months earlier so I was listening to them on my Walkman as my dad navigated the icy roads.
Growing up in the New York and New Jersey (and when I was in California spending the majority of the holiday seasons in NY), you’d think I would have experienced more White Christmases than that. One of my favorite Christmas songs is “White Christmas”, but the uppity jolly version from the scene in “Home Alone” where Kevin is grooming himself. (As opposed to the moody croony Bing Crosby version) So…a White Christmas, is it too much to ask?
Well, according to Accuweather AND Weather.com…2008 might be the year where I can experience a White Christmas. It snowed today, it’s going to snow on Friday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and possibly next THURSDAY a.k.a. Christmas! Even if it doesn’t snow, I’m sure there will be substantial snow on the ground.
Friday’s storm sounds like it has the potential to be a doozy, too!Filed under nostalgia, snow, weather | Comment (0)
