Playing Super Mario 3. We downloaded it for $5 on to our Wii. This was the level that my sister and me used to call “Sticker Sun” because of that sun in the corner.

My one addiction in life is lip balm. I’ve been addicted for over 20 years. I always have to keep lip balm at arms length from my bed because I often wake up in the middle of the night and have to put some more on. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to bring lip balm with me somewhere and I wind up having to buy an emergency tube of it. I do keep lip balm on my keychain, so as long as I have my car and house keys, I have lip balm.
When I was a kid, I used to hide lip balm under my pillow. I remember once my dad told me that I shouldn’t use so much lip balm because it’s not good for you, so I kept my addiction under wraps. That way when my lips would go through withdrawal in the middle of the night, I could just reach under my pillow and hydrate my lips.
I was also one of those kids that compulsively licked my lips in the winter, so I had a ring around my mouth from December until March.
When I was a teenager, I wrote what was essentially a love letter to Chapstick. In response, they sent me free Chapsticks.
My favorite brand was Chapstick. Original flavored, mint, cherry, strawberry, I loved it all. Now I find that cherry and original are the most common. I kind of miss mint and strawberry. I used to use a lot of strawberry as a kid. So, when we were in Vegas on Sunday and I was going through serious withdrawal because I wasn’t carrying my keychain everywhere, I wandered around a casino trying to find a store that would sell lip balm.
They not only had Chapstick, but they had STRAWBERRY Chapstick. It was a complete and total rip-off at this little Casino store, but I absolutely had to have it.
The smell alone makes me think of being an elementary school kid, slathering strawberry Chapstick on my lips over and over again, and then hiding it under my pillow.
Ahhh, strawberry Chapstick. How I have missed you!

Home Alone

I’m watching Home Alone for the first time in probably over ten years. It was my favorite movie when it first came out. We owned the VHS and watched it probably every day for a while.
I still memorize the entire movie so far.

In my memory, I can only remember one White Christmas. And it wasn’t pretty. It was wintry mix, and it was nasty, icy, and miserable. I was 12, I think, and I had gotten a bunch of Beach Boys tapes for my birthday a few months earlier so I was listening to them on my Walkman as my dad navigated the icy roads.
Growing up in the New York and New Jersey (and when I was in California spending the majority of the holiday seasons in NY), you’d think I would have experienced more White Christmases than that. One of my favorite Christmas songs is “White Christmas”, but the uppity jolly version from the scene in “Home Alone” where Kevin is grooming himself. (As opposed to the moody croony Bing Crosby version) So…a White Christmas, is it too much to ask?
Well, according to Accuweather AND Weather.com…2008 might be the year where I can experience a White Christmas. It snowed today, it’s going to snow on Friday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and possibly next THURSDAY a.k.a. Christmas! Even if it doesn’t snow, I’m sure there will be substantial snow on the ground.
Friday’s storm sounds like it has the potential to be a doozy, too!

Holy smokes, the first website I ever made is on archive.org!
It was last updated February of 1998.
Man, I was a hyper teenager!!

I went to Brunswick Acres School in South Brunswick, NJ and my first grade teacher was named Mrs. Weiss. First grade was pretty cool, except for math. I remember it pretty vividly, but then again, I have a freakishly good memory.
What I remember the most from first grade is Superkids. Sometimes I even sing the Oswald song to myself.
I remembered three of the characters names: Cass, Golly, and Oswald. I remembered that Cass liked to cook, Golly was a dog, and Oswald made up animals. The book that we read about Golly had scratch-n-sniff in it and I think it smelled like bubble gum.
Just now I Googled “superkids cass golly oswald” and I found that website all about Superkids. I listened to the Oswald song and I couldn’t believe I still remembered how it went! After *cough*21*cough* years.
Wow, that last sentence was really difficult to type out. 21 years since first grade. EEEEK.
But I am glad teachers are still using Superkids! If I were a teacher I’d definitely use Superkids!
