Cinderelly!
A young Cinderella pumpkin in our garden!

Gardening
Our garden is really doing well! A lot of things in our garden thrived in the rainy June we had, especially all of our squash. Look at our pumpkins:
We’ve been harvesting some delicious raspberries, string beans, and lettuce already. Matt’s hops have begun to flower, and while we don’t have any tomatoes ready to harvest yet, they look like they’ll be ready soon. We’re also trying to do carrots for the first time, and I think they’ll be ready soon, too!

I wrote a few blog posts about gardening on KeenForGreen:
- Using ladybugs to keep pests out of your garden
- Plants that repel mosquitoes
- A beginner’s guide to composting
Our garden is doing well. I think the first thing we’ll be able to harvest is our raspberries. We’re being given some eggplant plants tomorrow, so hopefully those go well. We’ll have two varieties: Chinese eggplant and a green eggplant called Ravena. I don’t know what to make with eggplant besides Italian food (eggplant parm, etc) so we’ll have to get some new recipes!
I also bought some basil from Pemberton Farms today. We’re going to plant them in a few pots and put them around the yard, because apparently they repel mosquitoes. That was the inspiration for my blog post. :-) I hope it works!
I also went crazy at Pemberton Farms buying nectarines. Silly pregnancy cravings, but at least this one’s healthy.

Yesterday Matt and I started gardening. It felt great to be gardening after 6 months of not gardening!
This year we planted seeds for many different types of squash (including pumpkins), green beans, watermelon, carrots, and lots of flowers! I also went to Russo’s and got some tomato and lettuce plants. We had seeds for lettuce but apparently they take 70 days to harvest. At that point it will be July and the lettuce wilts from the heat, so we’ll be planting lettuce seeds in a few months for a fall harvest. Last year the tomato plants from Russo’s yielded in MANY luscious tomatoes, so we decided to go that route again instead of starting from seeds.
We’re also doing some container gardening this time. Our yard space is limited, so we bought a few barrels from Christmas Tree Shops and put them on the other side of the house. Hope they do well.
Matt’s hops are also doing really well. They’re growing so fast…hopefully this year he’ll be able to harvest enough to make some good beer with it!
The raspberry plant is growing like a weed, as usual. Can’t wait to pick some berries
We planted lots of flowers, especially many marigolds because they repel bugs. I got a few flowers from Russo’s to plant in the front…mostly petunias as we wait for the seeds to sprout for the other flowers!
Hooray for spring! We’re (trying) to grow a lot of things we’ve never grown before. Last year we just did pumpkins, tomatoes, lettuce, hops, and raspberries. So let’s see how the rest turn out!

OK…finally!!! Here we go! Two weeks worth of Project 365! My parents were here from 4/15-4/24 so the pictures from those dates were from while they were here. Hopefully I’ll be better about doing this regularly now :-) Matt and I have been busy bees!

We have some confused flowers on our hands. After weather in the 60s over the weekend, I noticed these pansies in bloom in front of our house. Poor confused pansies; don’t they know it’s still wintertime?
