July 3rd, 2009

I hadn’t forgotten about Project 365! I just got bad about uploading.

But June is up to date, and I have a set ready for July.

Here comes the “son” do do do do…

May is over, so you can see our June Project 365 here!

Lots of lighthouses!

May 26th, 2009

On the way back from our trip to New York yesterday, we made a few stops along the way to visit some lighthouses in Connecticut. I just updated our lighthouse blog and here’s what we saw:

Five Mile Point Light

Southwest Ledge Light

New London Harbor Light

Our baby got his/her first gift! From the always thoughtful Debbie, of course! She sent Sesame Street figurines and this awesome (and appropriate) onesie! It was addressed to “Baby Munroe”…awwww, how cute!!!

Play that bass, daddy-o!

I had to share this P365 picture because I’m so proud of Matt and his upright bass!

He bought it in December at Upton Bass. We went down to CT so he could pick up the bass. We made a day trip of it, going to Mystic Seaport and then he bought the bass.

Matt’s been playing the bass for a long time (and the guitar for even longer — he’s been playing for over 25 years!) but the upright was totally new to him! He’s been practicing diligently in our basement music studio, practically every night. And yesterday he took the bass on his maiden voyage, playing it for an audience for the first time ever! He did really well. One never would have guessed that he had only been playing for less than 6 months. Everyone was wowed!

So, that’s Matt’s lovely bass and Matt playing it out for the first time! Can’t wait until he gigs with it more frequently. (And in the near future, I guess I’ll be needing a BABYSITTER to go to his gigs…wow!!!)

Canon and the “Lens Error”

May 16th, 2009

Before our trip to China we went to Best Buy to buy a new digital camera. We got a spiffy Canon, since our old camera was a Canon and we were happy with it. This was in October of 2007.

In June 2008, RIGHT as I was taking pictures of the miniature ponies of Assateague Island, our camera stopped working and it gave us a LENS ERROR. It didn’t work for the rest of the trip. We had to buy some disposable cameras at CVS. We were still able to view and upload photos, so we did that.

Luckily, we had gotten the $30 (2 year) extended warranty from Best Buy, because apparently Canon refuses to cover the “Lens Error” in spite of knowing it’s a problem. This error is so common that it even has a Wikipedia entry and an entire website devoted to it.

Anyway, Best Buy repaired the camera and it worked until we went to visit Scituate Lighthouse. Right before we got there, it gave us the dreaded Lens Error. Fortunately, this time it wasn’t totally broken; just the zoom lens, so we were still able to take a few photos. We went back to Best Buy, they sent it to get it fixed and we got it back a few weeks later.

Fast forward to yesterday. I was about to take a picture of some cool looking frogs at the frog exhibit at the Museum of Science.

LENS ERROR.

But wait, it’s worse. It was stuck with the lens OUT. And I can’t get the pictures off. I had to take pictures of the frogs with my camera phone:

At least I had some way to take pictures. I have a bunch of Project 365 photos that I can’t take off my camera, so this has screwed that project up a little. We’ll be using our old cameras until this gets repaired.

So tomorrow I’ll be going back to Best Buy…AGAIN. To have them repair my camera…AGAIN. That $30 extended warranty was well worth it for this. After repairing it 5 times, they’ll give us a new camera or we can extend the warranty again.

After this camera officially bites the dust for good, I will never buy another Canon. I think it’s really sleazy that they know this is a common problem and they refuse to fix it.

Hoppity hop!

Check out these hops! They are magic!

That picture was taken on May 10.

Here they were on 4/26!!

Project 365

May 13th, 2009

I don’t think I’m going to post them on the blog anymore! I’ve gotten so bad about regularly uploading that it’s becoming annoying to post them here, too. Plus, sometimes I have nothing to photograph so I end up taking a picture of the cat so it’s boring.

Instead, I’ll just post the pictures that I think are interesting and monthly Flickr links to that month’s photo set.

I forgot to take a picture for Project 365 this day (I swear the baby is sucking up my brain!) but luckily I had snapped a photo of Matt with my camera phone that I can use! :-)
